Blending a Modern Rustic Wedding

Posted in: Tips and Tricks, WEDDINGS

The Modern & Rustic Wedding Vision

Blending rustic and modern wedding elements can be tricky. Finding a venue that can accommodate this paring is key. The Haight in Elgin, Illinois is the perfect place to incorporate both modern and rustic elements. Using seasonally appropriate flowers, colors and textures also allow for the combination to come easily. Never force a design element, it should come naturally. Keep reading how Dana and Nick did just that!

The Process

Dana and Nick attended high school together but at the time, they were not an item. After reconnecting in college, they decided to take their friendship to the next level and dated for several years. After graduation, Dana became a successful lawyer and Nick became an emergency room nurse. Dating soon turned into love and love soon turned into a proposal.

Nick proposed to the love of his life at their family’s cabin in Michigan. Soon the happy couple began planning a wedding. Being a busy lawyer, Dana knew that she would not have the time to manage every little detail of her big day. Nick was also busy working long hours at the hospital. By hiring a month of coordinator, Ashley Nicole Events allowed them both to take a deep breath and relax on their special day. Each and every detail was thought of and executed on their behalf. Their wedding could not have been more beautiful.

The Details

Dana wore a stunning custom Hayley Paige wedding gown and her something blue was a pair of modern pale blue Badgley Mischka stilettos. She looked amazing in that dress!

The First Look

Bride and groom doing a first look. When planning a first look, it is very important to find a quiet spot where you can have some privacy. This is a very intimate, special moment when you see each other for the very first time on a wedding day. By finding a quiet place, you can truly enjoy the alone time as the rest of the wedding day will be filled with commotion and loved ones.

I do not think Dana or Nick could have chosen a better-looking wedding party! They chose to have their bridal portraits in a cornfield which played into their rustic design element and was also seasonally appropriate for their wedding! Dana incorporated modern elements into these locations by selecting flowered ties for the groomsmen and ribbon on the girls bouquets.

The Ceremony

By incorporating a handmade sign into their wedding day, it allowed for a personal touch as well as a creative DIY option. Normally, I say stay away from DIY elements as it will only cause stress on the wedding day. However, this was a very simple and small element to incorporate into the wedding and the bride and groom had nothing to do with it! Nick’s parents arranged for this as a surprise! How sweet!

Nick and Dana were escorted out of their ceremony by the Chicagoland Irish Bagpipers! Such a fun way to incorporate some cultural heritage into the wedding day. However, there are plenty of ways to incorporate culture into your wedding day.

The Reception at The Haight

This reception was so stunning! However, these photos do not do the room justice. It had to be experienced to understand. Town and Country Gardens hung geometric lanterns from the ceiling and incorporated delicate white spray roses among a luxurious garland. Black flatware provided a striking juxtaposition against the rustic farm tables and the soft glow of the votive candles. By blending traditionally rustic elements (farm tables and wood) with more modern elements (mixed metals), you can create a wedding reception that is truly unique.
